The idea of establishing a scheduled cargo airline was first raised within Volga-Dnepr Group in 2002 when the Groups management understood an essential need in further growth and business diversification. The new scheduled cargo business could widen borders of the client choice between different types of air cargo logistics.

In 2003 the Groups management announced the launch of a new project and registered a new brand – AirBridgeCargo Airlines.

The company name was chosen purposefully. The new airline builds reliable air bridges between continents worldwide. Its unique capabilities are based on a combination of business and operational advantages that enable АВС to offer a broader range of air cargo logistics services to the Group’s customers.

In 2003-2004, the management team started to develop the airline's fleet and, in April 2004, АВС obtained its first Boeing 747-200 freighter from Alitalia. It performed its first commercial flight from China to Europe in May 2004 via Krasnoyarsk.
